The third age has increased by 6% in Barcelona in a decade

The third age in Barcelona has increased by 6% since 2007 and will continue to increase in the coming years.

The group of people over 65 is made up of women, close to 60%, while men only represent 40%.

Currently there are about 90,000 people over 65 in Barcelona who live alone. The problem of housing and old age are the two main portfolios of the City Council right now.

The neighborhoods where most of the elderly population is grouped are Montbau, La Guineueta, Sant Genís de los Agudells and La Verneda and la Pau, while where they have less presence is in the Raval, Torre Baró, the Olympic Village and the Gòtic, where they do not reach 26%.

As the old age has grown, therefore also increased the services. Home help has grown by 14.6% and telecare by 36%.
